In January 2009, Spy Catcher got busy. Steve Sears and Stu Gili-Ross had talked about this band for ages. It was quite a simple concept really old friends making honest, real sounding songs that feel completely right. No digging up the past or regenerating the present. Nothing pre-meditated or stylized. A spontaneous demo tracked at Steve´s humble home studio along with guitarist Mitch Mitchener and drummer Ali Gordon really got the ball rolling, and within a fortnight, the track ´Music That My Dad Likes´ had already been hailed as Radio 1´s ´Unsigned Track Of The Week´ and featured in Kerrang´s ´Ten Songs You Should Hear Now´. Since instantly selling out of their sought after demos, Spy Catcher have self produced their debut release. We wanted to have control over this record and make it sound like us no gimmicks or studio magic, it´s live, loud and honest. Their live shows are played as if each is their last and simply confirm the sincerity that can be heard on record.
Within a fortnight of it´s inception, ´Music That My Dad Likes´ received Radio 1 Unsigned Track Of The Week and featured in Kerrang´s ´Ten Songs You Should Hear Now´. You won´t find any gimmicks, whistles or bells here - just honest bangers.
Spy Catcher, just three months old and already sounding like a prospect. These boys have form frontman Steve Sears was formerly in Cry For Silence and bassist Stuart Gili-Ross is better known for his day job in Gallows so it´s little wonder they sound sharp and sussed already combining the low end swagger of QOTSA with the tunefulness of Rival Schools. Go see. Now. Paul Brannigan - KERRANG! Magazine
